Oscar Wilde was imprisoned in Reading in 1895. Following his release, he went to France, where, fired by his prison experience, he wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol in 1898.

You'll study alongside local British students no matter which university you choose, and you'll have the full range of courses available to you. Right then, off you go!

Course Highlights:
As a research-driven university with over 10,000 undergrads, the University of Reading has excellent departments in most areas and a top-rated mechanical engineering program. Along with the usual courses in the sciences and humanities, Reading offers interdisciplinary programs in urban and regional studies and agriculture and food so you're sure to find something interesting and different.
The University of Sussex dares to be different with an academic focus on international topics, active research, and interdisciplinary study. You'll be challenged to use your knowledge of Keynesian economics to analyze postmodern literature, or vice versa. The English lit department is at the top of the charts and a huge roster of fab science and engineering faculty means students can work with eminent researchers in their fields.
Your program includes a number of excursions such as private tours of London, Parliament, and Westminster Abbey; Thanksgiving dinner; and trips to nearby Stonehenge and Stratford-upon-Avon.

  • Living inside the gritty city isn't everyone's cuppa tea - some prefer a different pace. These two universities are both within museum-day-trip and club-night-out distance of London, but give you a different sort of campus to come home to.

The University of Reading is only half an hour from London, but what a difference that makes! Reading is a friendly town with a thriving commercial core. Tech companies make it England's Silicon Valley. "The Hexagon," an entertainment center that hosts everything from classical orchestras to championship snooker tourneys, provides entertainment galore. The campus is considered one of the most beautiful in England, with 320 landscaped acres surrounding Whiteknights Lake. Recreational activities are the norm here, and Reading has a huge sports center, tennis courts, rowing on the Thames, and fields for rugby, football, cricket, and hockey. Reading has plenty of academic fields to choose from too.

Speaking of "interesting and different"... The University of Sussex sits in Brighton, the brash seaside resort where Londoners go for fun weekends "down the shore." Just an hour from London by train, Brighton Pier and the miles of beachfront around it are the place to play in the sun. When the sun goes down, Brighton lights up as the clubbing capital of the south coast and a natural habitat for fans of arthouse and cult cinema. Like Brighton, the student life at Sussex is both relaxed and intense, and Brighton's bohemian atmosphere makes it a great place to work, play, learn, and totally be yourself.
