The White City shimmers in the heat like a mirage to offer food, drink, and rest to the
traveler. Welcome to Merida, the capital city of the Yucatan pennisula--a unique mix of three cultures: prehispanic Maya, colonial Spanish of the conquistadors, and the exciting pulse of modern day Mexico.
Enjoy a vibrant cultural life, in addition to hiking through tropical rainforests, swimming in crystal blue waters and learning about Yucatan's unique indigenous history. It's easy to make friends
and find the classes that will make your experience in Mexico so memorable. It’s no mirage, but Mérida
is a tropical fanatasy...that's real!
Mérida is alive with public festivals, from
the nightly open-air concerts of traditional
music and dance, to the weekly food and
handicraft market, to yearly celebrations
like the Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo. In between, you
can soak up the tropical sun on the nearby beaches or
practice your dance moves at the local salsa club. And
you’ll be happy to discover that real tacos look—and
taste—much different than anything back home!
You and a roommate will be staying with a señora—an
experienced host who’ll look after you while making some of the most
incredible meals you’ve ever eaten. Don’t be shy—she’ll be
happy to help you find your bearings and make the most out
of living in this vibrant city.
