The oldest college in Delhi, St. Stephen’s College was founded in 1881 with just five students and three teachers. Today, it boasts more than 1,100 students and is widely considered the best institution of higher education in India.

You'll take courses alongside local Indian students at St. Stephens. In addition, you can choose to take special classes on some of the world’s best contemporary fiction (by Indian authors who write in English), or on Indian History and Culture.

Course Highlights:
The small classes at St. Stephen’s College make it the place to study Indian history and philosophy (3,500 years of it!), Brit lit from a truly postcolonial perspective, or computers, chemistry, and more.
To really bend your spoon, learn Hindi, a language with a completely different alphabet.
Trips to Bombay, the Taj Mahal in Agra, and the fabled Pink City of Jaipur will remind you that there’s always more in India waiting to blow your mind.

  • Ready for an out-there experience? India is beyond exciting—beyond beyond! A city once ruled by Mogul lords and now capital of the world’s largest democracy, Delhi pulsates with the energy of ancient customs meeting modern ways. Sure, sacred cows still wander in the streets, but they’re outnumbered by almighty cell phones.

Delhi itself is an archeologist’s dream, having been destroyed and rebuilt at least seven times over thousands of years, and you’ll need more than one rickshaw ride to see all the sights.

Millennium-old relics or the latest “Bollywood” musical-action- dramedy—why choose? At the bazaar you’re expected to haggle for jewelry or silks, and then you can wear what you buy to one of the ultrapopular dance clubs. And yes, the tandoori chicken and vindaloo will taste much better here. Back at your apartment, you can study in your spacious bedroom, watch TV, or cook up your own extra-hot curry with fresh spices.
