| The University of Constance was formed in 1966 as a “radical experiment” in education, replacing traditional lectures with smaller seminars, student interaction, and research-based teaching. The campus architecture reflects those ideals.

There’s no denying it: Constance is quintessentially
quaint. This charming city, flower-laden and misty, is full
of historic landmarks and postcard-perfect plazas where you
can shop or grab some kaffee und kuchen.
But don’t let the ah-factor fool you.
Constance is also a
hip resort area, where thousands come to play on the shores
of Lake Constance or ski and hike the nearby Swiss Alps.
When night falls, you’ll discover smoky cafés where
students debate the latest trends in German cinema, or
dance clubs where the techno beat pounds away the Saturday
nights. Tourists, students, and locals alike enjoy the
traditional biergartens, where you can sample the local
brands and dine under the chestnut trees. Like the city, the University of Constance
ain’t as quaint as it seems. Almost shockingly, the university stands in
contrast to the medieval city, with its artsy buildings and
the latest high-tech facilities. Chat with your new German
friends, ramble in the bordering woods after class, or do
your homework on the pristine campus lawns.
