Istanbul, Turkey (Outgoing Program)
Istanbul, considered the cultural capital of Turkey, is the country’s largest city with a population of over 13 million. Set astride three waterways (the Golden Horn, the Sea of Marmara, and the Bosphorus), Istanbul has one of the world’s most dramatic and strategic locations, straddling both the Asian and European continent. In its long history, the city has been the center of many great empires, including the Roman, Byzantine and the Ottoman, with magnificent traces left behind from all three. Although today the city is transforming rapidly with urbanization and economic development, it is still able to balance tradition and modernity effortlessly. So much so that it’s been dubbed “The World’s Hippest City” for its many designer shops, international film and music festivals, delicious Turkish lokantas (restaurants), and bustling nightlife.
In order to have an idea of what classes are available at Koc University, you should visit the Koc University website, as well as Course Selections web page.
Courses taught at Koc follow a similar US structure with lectures, class participation, presentations and written examinations and papers. All exchange students will enroll in a Turkish language course and 3-4 English-taught course electives. You will need to be sure that you are registered as a full time student according to Koc University and Rutgers University. That means you will need to take at least 12 credits each semester. The credit translation system between Koc University and Rutgers University is 1:1, meaning a 3-credit course at Koc University will also be a 3-credit course on your Rutgers University transcript. It is not possible to take classes as not-for-credit or pass/fail.
