Amman, Jordan (Outgoing Program)
Your Host City: Amman
Amman, the capital of Jordan, lies between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley and is said to be built on seven hills. At its heart is the Citadel, where you can see Roman remains as well as the traces left by several other civilizations. Amman’s population is equally diverse, comprising Jordanians, but also Palestinian, Kuwaiti, and Iraqi immigrants who have fled to Jordan as a safe haven. The best way to practice your Arabic numbers is by haggling in the city’s bazaars. The Gold Souq, in downtown Amman, is renowned for its gold and silver work. For an ancient city, Amman has a surprisingly modern feel, with burgeoning retail, restaurant, and nightlife scenes.
